Vivoom, a Cambridge-based app that originally launched as an Instagram video alternative, is trying something new this holiday season. And it might just help you connect with your loved ones (without a lot of trouble on your part).
Vivoom today introduced four holiday themes—“Hanukkah,” “Christmas,” “Dear Santa” and “New Year”—that provide festive frames around videos shot with the Vivoom app. The 15-second videos can then be shared on Facebook, Twitter, email or SMS with friends or family.
Sound cheesy? Maybe it is, but it’s certainly a step up from sending a digital greeting card and easier than mailing out a card. And it might even make your relative or friend—you know, the one who you care about, but aren’t necessarily going to see over the holidays—smile.
Vivoom has raised about $4 million in funding from Insight Venture Partners, Stage 1 Ventures and Converge Venture Partners.
The app is available for iOS and Android.
